Is Snapchat Down or Is It Just You? How to Tell in 1 Minute
By the View Snapchat Stories team · · 1 min read
Snapchat stops sending snaps, stories won’t load, or you see “Could not connect”. Before changing settings, find out whether the problem is Snapchat’s or yours. It takes about a minute.
Step 1: Run a status check
Open our Is Snapchat down? page. It contacts three Snapchat services from our server and shows whether each one answered and how fast:
- the Snapchat website,
- the servers that deliver stories and videos,
- the login and accounts service.
If one shows Down, it’s Snapchat. Wait; big outages are usually fixed within a few hours.
Step 2: Check what other people say
Search “snapchat down” on X and sort by latest. If hundreds of people posted in the last 15 minutes, it’s an outage, even if our check is green: some problems hit only one country, one network or one feature, like chat or the map.
Step 3: If Snapchat is up, fix your side
| Problem | Try first |
|---|---|
| “Could not connect” | Switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data, or the reverse |
| Snaps stuck on “Sending” | Clear the cache: Settings → Clear Data → Clear Cache |
| Stories won’t load | Close Snapchat fully and reopen it |
| App crashes on open | Update the app, then restart your phone |
| Works on Wi-Fi only | Allow Snapchat to use mobile data in phone settings |
| Login keeps failing | Turn off any VPN; Snapchat blocks some VPN addresses |
Clearing the cache doesn’t delete your Memories, chats or friends.
Watching stories while the app is broken
If the app won’t open but the website works, you can still watch public stories in a browser with our story viewer.
